Hello everyone! I’ve been borrowing books at a prodigious rate from our library. That can be easy to do when borrowing picture books, but it wasn’t until this week that I discovered the book checkout limit at our library.
It’s 30. You can’t check out more than 30 books.
I wanted to check out more than 30, so we used Connor’s library card. I felt a little ashamed about how many books I wanted to check out, But Connor assured me that reading large quantities of picture books is a perfectly good hobby.
Has anyone else here discovered your lending limit at your library? What is it?
A Few Obsessions From This Week
There were some real highlights from this week’s library book haul.
Moving the Millers’ Minnie Moore Mine Mansion by Dave Eggers and illustrated by Júlia Sardà was an unexpected gem. I picked it up because the illustration of the house grabbed me. What we didn’t expect was that the writing would be so deadpan humorous starting with the opening line about how all the best stories start in Idaho.
I had heard that Fireworks by Matthew Burgess and illustrated by Cátia Chien was beautiful in writing and illustration. I can concur! The way the book captures a hot summer day in the city makes you sweat along with the humidity and crave watermelon. I’m also really impressed with all the firework shapes Cátia came up with. I feel like I’m always drawing the same shape when I try to draw fireworks.
