Hi friends! It’s been a whirlwind of a week. One of the highlights was sitting down with Connor and watching An Evening With Ray Bradbury. Afterward we both felt inspired to write. That evening I started a draft of a short story after being inspired by Bradbury’s recommendation to write short stories and his thoughts on writing what makes you happy, or sad, or afraid. Maybe it feels obvious to do that, but the way he talks about it in the video made it feel easy to get going!
A highlight for me was around the 18:40 mark where he talks about writer’s block. That advice felt applicable to any creative pursuit. I also liked the part between 35:20-35:50 where he talks about self expression.
A Few Obsessions From This Week
I came across this article about Ana Inciardi and her vending machines that dispense art prints. (See this map to find out if there is a vending machine near you!) I think it would be near to do something like that. I looked up to see what it would take to get a sticker vending machine. They do exist, although they aren’t cheap.
Last week I talked about how much Connor and I were enjoying Matthew Forsythe’s work. I did a deep dive around the internet and found some neat interviews with him. The Brilliant Deep article shows some of his rough drafts. What a goldmine for those of us who wonder how he does his magic with color! I also found a video of him doing a demo in promotion for The Gold Leaf. This interview with him about The Bad Mood And The Stick talks a bit about how he decided on the palette for the book.
